elcome to interesting fauna of modern civilization. After we have been on the qui vive for a couple of years, we are now able to present the first Wooling report on the Mozillaum Fireum Foxopulum Tecerom, commonly known as Mozilla's Firefox 3.0. This cute animalcule is only seven megabytes big in its larval stage, i.e. before it is installed on any system which runs Windows (starting with Win2000), Linux or Mac OSX (10.4 or higher). When it evolves to its natural appearance by being clicked on, it develops its natural beauty and functionality. The evolution of the speciesBe this as it may, we will first have a look at the primal forms of this species. In 2003 the software developer Mozilla decided to publish Firefox as an open source browser separately from its application suite. Thereby, it stepped into competition with Microsoft's Internet Explorer and Apple's Safari. Since then, Mozilla has gained importance. Various sources are quoting different numbers here but are definitely agreeing on the growing influence of Firefox (e.g. Heise Online states a distribution among "IT-interested user" of about 51 percent).
This fox is hot but it won't burn you!
Lately, on June 19, 2008 to be more precise, Firefox 3.0 has been launched. Mozilla even tried to get an entry in the Guinness World Records list by asking its users to download the latest version within the first 24hours. However, the run on the new and better version had been too big; therefore, a couple of servers crashed and were not available from time to time. The Guinness committee is still checking the numbers and will announce soon if Mozilla will be entered in the next edition. The main noveltiesFor all of you who are still using an older version or did not even dare yet to switch from the Internet Explorer, here are some of the main novelties.
1. It looks different. Well, using one of the various themes provided the user can customize the look individually. However, if you're not into changing the look yourself, Mozilla already did so anyways.
2. It is faster. The page reproduction is about 50 percent faster compared to previous versions of Firefox. Compared to the IE, this is even a way larger step forward.
It comes in peace to enhance the Internet experience.
3. It is more secure. Obviously, Mozilla's products have always been more secure than Microsoft's. This is mainly because it is an open source platform, i.e. the code is open to be changed by anyone. Therefore, programmers from all over the world are working on the system simultaneously and thereby improving it tremendously. Even Micro$oft can't pay that many workers.
4. It is more intelligent. The fox is smart. It remembers pages you visit regularly and already provides shortcuts as soon as a recognized word is typed in the URL field. This is also called "smart bookmark". You can add keywords to your bookmarks. For example, you just enter "wooling" or "Schülerzeitung" into Firefox and it automatically links you to www.wooling.net. This is especially important if the URL is way longer and hard to remember, it also helps you to organize your bookmarks.
All this in mind, Firefox 3.0 is again one step forward in the direction of enhancing everyone's Internet experience. Let's just hope, this cute animal will never be wiped out by cruel industrial tycoons. Don't be afraid of burning yourself by using this fiery fox it is definitely powerful but harmless if treated correctly.
