We try to pick out the rare fantastic websites - every week a new website put on show. This week: How to ... well, there is no website this week.
F
irst of all, I am totally sorry for all of you who have been eagerly waiting for a new website to visit and play at or whatever you do with the pages I present in this weekly article. However, I don't have a new site for you this time. I can literally hear the grumbles and anger arising from your side of the screen but that's how it is. Cope with it.
Costumer Contact Center - not my one but it looks similar.
Obviously, I still wrote something - sort of. "What will this short text be about?" some of you might ask. Well, few of you may know that I actually have to work, simultaneously to my studies that is, in order to be able to pay the rent and have something to eat once in a while. Being a brilliant mind doesn't pay off to well as long as you don't have a diploma. Therefore, I sell computers and multimedia via the phone at a Dresden based online store. No worries, I'm not one of these creeps who call you in the middle of the night and try to force you into any kind of contract. No way, it's just the other way around. You call me, I provide information on all of the products we sell and only after some good advice and price negotiations you buy the stuff you need (or you want to have, which is not necessarily the same as we'll see later on). What is this about? The above shall just ensure you that I actually know what I am talking about. It could also be that you already stopped reading because you couldn't care less about how I try to make a living. Well, if you are still following the lines, welcome to the actual topic of this article:
50 vs 23 inches
Polls have shown lately that Germans spend more for their electronic equipment then they used to do a couple of years ago. This is especially the case when it comes to TV sets. In the year 2005 the average German TV set buyer (long word) spent 661 Euro on his or her new screen. Nowadays the average rose to about 809 Euro and believe me as an experienced customer as well as salesman, most people don't even think about the price. Well, it is correct that prices have gone down for the past couple of months but in the same time more people actually spent money on large TV sets which the probably won't even need at all. Therefore, I thought I was going to write a little manual about what you need, what you think you need and what clerks at any large electronics department will never tell you.
Plasma or LCD? Both types have their respective advantages and it will absolutely be up to you which one fits your needs better. However, there are some aspects to keep in mind. Movies on a plasma TV seem to have a better three-dimensional depth and thereby become more life-like, the contrast that plasmas are able to offer are mostly way higher than what LCDs can come up with. On the other hand, pictures on LCDs are said to be brighter and more vibrant. A big plus for the LCD side is that in contrast to plasma TVs, LCD work well in bright rooms and you don't want to sit in the dark every time you're watching your favorite show on TV, do you? There have been rumors about plasmas burning in pictures into the screen and LCDs not being able to show real dark colors or not being as good when it comes to fast motions. However, these are matters of the past; new TV sets of good quality won't come up with such issues.
A cheap place to find electronics - not worth the flight to the US though.
The pic looks different back home. Well, it surely doesn't look the same as in the store, right? The sad thing is that most shops won't tell you about that one thing: an HDTV, no matter if it is a Full HD, HD ready or whatever, can only show high definition if it is fed with an HD signal. Therefore, you'll need an HD receiver to get digital cable or satellite into your TV set and only if the channel of choice is broadcasting in high def, your picture is going to look like the one you saw in the store when being so absolutely flabbergasted by the vivid motion pictures.
Size does matter. Well, the bigger the better, right? Not so much. It all depends on how far you are going to sit away from the screen. You don't want to have to turn your head every time you want to look from one side of the screen to the other, do you? Therefore, there is a quite handy formula for how big your TV should be. As the size is mostly given in inches we will take this into account in the formula as well. Let's say you're sitting 2.5 meters away from the screen that would be about 98 inches. Now divide that by two and by three and you'll get the maximum and the minimum size of your new TV. In our example the largest screen would be 49 inches (let's say 50inches since you won't find a 49 inches screen), whereas the minimum size of the screen should be about 32 inches in order to gain the best viewing experiences.
Any alternatives?
One of the largest LCD TVs you can find - 100 inches.
Not really. Well, you could go with a rear projection system which is especially good if you are heading for a cinematic experience since the room should be as dark as possible and the screen should be quite far away from the audience. Also, there is one big drawback, if you don't buy one of the newest LED projectors, you might have to change the light bulb every so often and these bulbs really cost a fortune. Keep it in mindI really hope I could solve some questions on the matters of your new TV set (or your parent's depending on your financial means). Unfortunately, no TV can make the German team look better at the Olympic Games which are currently going on. However, we'll cross our fingers that we at least leave Azerbaijan and North Korea behind in the medal count. Oh and one last thing, if you for any chance call me at work, I obviously expect you to have all the data given above in mind in return I'll come up with a new website next week.
