We try to pick out the rare fantastic websites - every week a new website put on show. This week: How to get information on the information getter.
A
lright, here it comes. May I introduce you to my very first webtip that actually focuses on a German website - The WatchBlog. If you thought after my (*sigh*) British "target" of last week I was just gonna give up and see what great ideas our dear readers come up with, you've been absolutely right. However, only one random guy posted a link that actually doesn't lead nowhere. Good job folks. Is that all you're able to come up with. Bring it on! This is an official challenge.
Ever thought about what might be behind all of this?
In the meantime, I'm going to present a well known site. A website each and every one of us uses - daily. If you don't visit the homepage yourself, you definitely have a little tiny toolbar integrated in your browser. The most extreme implementation of this website in your life/computer would be a widget on your desktop or a speed dial button for the homepage directly on your smartphone. Geek alert!!!! Four out of the latter five indications fit perfectly with me (and that's probably just because I don't use widgets at all).
Well, frankly speaking, this website provides information on the provider of all the information available. The GoogleWatchBlog basically does what its name says, it watches Google and its authors post all the news concerning the world's favorite search engine. The latest news from the Google universe July 22, 2008 Google Maps does know work in pedestrian mode. Unfortunately, this does (by today) only work within the map of New York City; however, it is more than likely that Google will expand this service quickly.
July 21, 2008 Research has shown that Gmail has become one of the most spammiest (is that a word?) mail accounts ever. I.e. fake accounts of Google's mail service send out the largest number of SPAM (and I am not referring to the breakfast ham) each day.

World Earth Day - April 22, 2008
198 years ago Columbia declared its independence from Spain. In honor of this historical event, a Google Doodle was displayed showing a dove and the Columbian national flag. Doodles have become little Easter eggs the Google programmers have come up with quite regularly. Depending on special events in history or holidays, to just name two examples, the GOOGLE nameplate changes to little pictures while the actual name mostly remains still quite readable.
(These are just three of the twelve items posted in the last 72hours.)
Whatever the news about the most preferable search engine might be - the watchblog will probably be the first place you can find out more about it. This German site works closely with their English twin page googlesystem.blogspot.com. Apart from news entries, there is a section with fun stuff with and about Google just to make you giggle (oh what a play on words ...). There within the authors explain things like how ǝlƃooƃ noʎ ʞɔnɟ made its way into the top5 searched items list. They also list the doodles (see above) which had been visible recently and explain various unknown features within the search function as well as within other Google related applications. Some questions remain unsolved
I don't believe there is a caption needed here.
Even if you made it through all the tips and tricks, were amused by the large number arty impressions and informed yourself about the latest privacy policy, there is still one more thing you definitely have to remember: Google will not solve all your life's questions. It just helps a little. It might even be able to answer some everyday riddles. However, it is only a machine, a pretty smart one though but still a machine.
